Hyacinth plant – planting, cultivation

Hyacinth is a perennial herbaceous plant with an underground bulb-shaped stem. The hyacinth bulb is large and produces several fleshy, lingual leaves and stems that grow up to 50 cm in height. The leaves don’t fully develop until after flowering. The flowers are fragrant and can be in a variety of colors, depending on the variety. They are gathered in clustered inflorescences built of bent petals. Hyacinth requires a sunny or semi-shady place, and the planting should be done in rich with nutritious and well-drained soils. Planting Hyacinth is most often done during the fall. The bulbs are placed at a depth of about 10 cm and at a distance of 15 to 20 cm. When it comes to growing hyacinths in a flowerpot, you should know that a bulb that is planted in a flowerpot and has bloomed indoors will rarely bloom the following year, unless you transplant it to the garden in the fall. If you decide to grow Hyacinths in a flowerpot, in order for it to bloom as long as possible, it should not be in a too-warm room, and the compost in which it is planted should be watered moderately and care should be taken not to dry it out. The flower stalk is cut after flowering, and the leaves are left until they turn yellow.
