For some, it’s their pride and joy, while for others the garden is just yet another element of their house that they have to maintain. Whatever camp you fall into, let’s be honest – we all want it to look the part.
At the same time, not all of us are experts in this field. It means that a lot of basic mistakes are made and for the purposes of today, we will take a look at some of these to try and ensure you don’t fall for them.
You don’t cut your lawn enough
Out of all of the issues that we speak about today, we are pretty sure that this is the least technical, so to speak.
One of the few things that most of us are capable of doing when it comes to our garden is cutting the grass. Unfortunately, for those of you who don’t do this, it can result in a poorer quality lawn. Ultimately, it’s going to be patchy and not very nice on the eye. This is because the longer grass can act as shade, and ultimately prevent some of the lawn from receiving sufficient quantities of water and light.
As such, cut your lawn regularly, or at least turn to a Washington lawn mowing service to help you along your way.
The same rules apply to plants
OK, you’re not necessarily going to cut your plants, but at least in relation to light, the same rules apply. If plants are given too little, or sometimes too much natural light, it can stunt their growth.
The solution? You need to study the light requirements of each one you are thinking of putting in your garden. Armed with this information, you can decide where is the most suitable location for them.
You give your plants too much water
We have just spoken about light requirements, so let’s now move onto how much water your plants need.
We are all taught from a young age that plants need water, but a lot of us just go overboard with this. When we make this mistake, water can accumulate near the roots and ultimately starve your plants of oxygen – which happens to be another key requirement.
What’s the correct amount of water? Simply making sure that the soil is completely soaked is sufficient – it doesn’t need to be swimming.
You don’t size your containers properly
For those of us who aren’t fully tuned with gardening, all containers might be equal. As you may have gathered by our tone, this isn’t necessarily the case.
The size of the container does matter and if you notice that the roots of a plant are starting to grow out of a pot, it’s time to move to a bigger one. Usually, the key signs will be in the drainage holes and if you spot the roots poking out of here, it’s a sure-fast sign that you need to take action and invest in a bigger pot.
